The General Conference of the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW), this afternoon, concluded its seventh session at the headquarters of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco.
In his address at the closing session of the Conference held under the patronage of H.M. King Mohammed VI of Morocco, the Director General of ISESCO and Secretary General of the FUIW, Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, described the outcome of the Conference as being responsive to the demands of development as planned by the Conference members to thoroughly advance university education in the Muslim world, and improve the Federation’s action and performance, while allowing it to benefit from contemporary trends and modern methods of university action development at various levels, and ensure quality and accreditation, their ultimate aim being to turn this institution into a driving force of progress towards the fulfillment of the common goals of all Member Universities.
He said that the Conference’s outcome, together with other previously adopted projects, constituted the structural foundation of the Federation. He added that this morning’s roundtables, held on the themes “Cooperation and Partnership for Developing Joint University Action” and “Financial Sustainability and University Institutional Performance”, converged towards the ultimate strategic goal the Federation was endeavoring to reach through planned phases and successive action plans, in line with the rational method adopted in the Federation’s sustained action to discharge its mission in such a way as to turn Member Universities into hubs of scientific research, industrial innovation and knowledge creativity, and a basic pool of efficient solutions to social issues and adequate answers to challenges of comprehensive sustainable development, in addition to their conventional mission of transferring information and knowledge and developing human resources.
Dr Altwaijri added that the Conference’s positive outcome was not an end per se. The ultimate objective, he explained, was to enforce the resolutions adopted into joint productive and effective actions, while involving all Member Universities, each within the limit of its capacities and the ambit of its specialization, in coordination and cooperation with the FUIW General Secretariat and in conformity with the guidelines and recommendations laid out in the Rabat Declaration adopted by the Conference.
Dr Altwaijri also reiterated his thanks and appreciation to His Majesty King Mohammed VI for having bestowed his patronage on the Conference.
In addition, he expressed his confidence that the Conference members would take great care to ensure the appropriate conditions for the implementation of the resolutions adopted and provide the financial and technical support to translate this positive outcome into concrete terms on the ground.
